Lars Gustafsson [Sweden, 1936] has always been an outsider in Swedish literature. He has a doctor’s degree in philosophy and has worked for a long time as a university lecturer in Texas. His interest in academic subjects has also always been present in his poems and novels. His Dutch translator, Bernlef, has referred to Gustafsson as a ‘mathematical lyric poet’.
