Antjie Krog

(South Africa, 1952) published some 10 volumes of poems since her début in 1970, besides prose works and plays. Recurring themes in her oeuvre are the battle of the sexes, notably the position of women in that battle, and the plight of her country, torn apart by inner conflict. Her work has been translated into English, Dutch and many other languages and she has received numerous awards, including the prestigious Hertzog Prize in 1990.
