Ingrid de Kok 1951-...

country: South Africa
language: Afrikaans
Ingrid de Kok [South Africa, 1951] has so far published three collections of poetry and is considered one of the most interesting of present-day South African poets. De Kok writes in a form of English that often has a strong Afrikaans ring to it. In her most recent collection Terrestrial things, De Kok does not steer clear of the painful and embarrassing things that came to light during the sessions of the Truth and Reconciliation Committee. Her poetry is written with a ‘gentleness of voice that sometimes acts contrapuntally with the sometimes breath-taking directness of her images’, according to a South African reviewer.
