Mark Boog

(Netherlands, 1970) made his début in 2000 with the collection Alsof er iets gebeurt (As if something is happening) which earned him the 2001 C. Buddingh’ Prize. In rapid succession he then published works of prose and poetry, including two novels: De vuistslag (The punch) and De warmte van het zelfbedrog (The warmth of self-deception), and two books of poems: Zo helder zagen we het zelden (We rarely saw it that clear) and Luid overigens de noodklok (And by the way, sound the alarm), which appeared last year. Critic Piet Gerbrandy wrote in De Volkskrant about this latest collection: ‘This poetry is as desolate as a desert scene; it instils thirst the way salt does. Drink brings relief, for a while.’
