Ahmed al-Shahawi (Egypt, 1960) has published ten books of poems and works for the Egyptian daily al-Ahram. He is also chief editor of the weekly Nisf ad- Doenya. His most recent book, Commandments On Women’s Love, published in 2003, is a collection of 255 prose poems about love and its place in Islamic mystical thought.
